Go Solo!

The day I decided to go for a Solo trip, various reactions awaited me. Many liked the idea, but were frank enough to admit that they would not dare do this.A set of instructions followed from family, as expected!

It is not unusual for me to travel Solo. I have been to various places alone, mostly due to official visits, or some academic work.

However, this time I decided to go alone for my pure love for travelling. The destination I chose was for my love for history, architecture and food.

Going Solo has many advantages and  draw backs too. It gives you a handy opportunity to explore yourself from within, along with exploring a new place, people and culture.

You are not bound by any restrictions, and no dependability on other's schedule.

Going Solo need not necessarily mean you are absolutely alone. You are accompanied by fellow travellers, Taxi drivers, commuters, and many more, only difference being you are unfamiliar to them till you become familiar.

Yes, Solo travelling has disadvantages too. One of the most feared being travelling in unknown territory all alone. Secondly, risk of security and third being fear of boredom.

True it is! But,  it can be overcome by some basic planning well in advanced.

Solo travelling gives you confidence to explore people; places, culture and you have all the time to introspect.

For those trying to wander alone, few things to ponder are;

· Choose destinations with your places of interest.

· Solo trip need not be a backpack trip. If you are first time traveller, do plan well in advance.

· Do your homework on geography, its culture, best time to visit etc.

· Avoid wearing valuables.

· While exploring, keep all the emergency contacts handy. Including your                          hotel number.

· Study about the best tourist destinations and list down only places desired to                  visit.

· Don't plan too much, leave for some surprises. Keep time in handy.

· Always, plan to return by sunset at your stay place .

·  Try to taste as much local food as available.

· Be aware of local time restrictions, political issues, weather etc.

· Most places are safe to visit and people are ready to help, still keep your belongings safe.

· Take help of Solo travellers to plan your visit.

· Most importantly See new, Eat new and Learn new.

 Happy traveling!
